Review of Mulberry Street (2006) by Az D — 11 Apr 2008
Take a zombie movie outbreak in NY and replace it with cheesy (no pun intended!) blood thirsty rat people and this is what you get. It was a good attempt to cash in on the zombie movie band wagon but all the signs of the overused genre are there.
There are suspenseful moments and dark comedy that carry the movie and the plot is not too bad that you want to turn it off but it's the same ol' same ol'. Plenty of blood and some gore but the rat creatures just look somewhat laughable.
The director does get kudos for involving his audience with the characters development and for working with such a low budget. Oh, by the way, can someone explain to me why the hell people in a shitty NYC apartment have no access to firearms?!!
