Review of Mulan (1998) by Baurushan J — 18 Aug 2013
I remember watching this as a kid on my old computer a lot. The story is about a peasant girl named Mulan who cannot prove herself to be a better person. When the Huns evade China, they are looking for one man from each family to step into the army except for Mulan whose only male in her family is her ailing father.
She instantly decides to disguise herself as a man and sneak into the army just to save her father but also along with the rest of the troops to stop the evil Shan-Yu and his men. The classic fairy tale is turned on its head where the princess rescues the prince this time.
Ming-Na Wen who you may remember as Chun-Li from Street Fighter voices the title character and I hope to see more from her in the future. Eddie Murphy voices the funny guardian dragon Mushu, B.D. Wong as the leader Shang and Miguel Ferrier as the villain Shan-Yu.
This movie came out in the 1990s (my generation) which was the era movies were insanely creative. Mulan gets a 10/10 as I worship the grounds of my generation.
