Review of Mulan (1998) by Dov D — 25 Dec 2013
One of the few Disney classics that fully immerses itself in another countries culture, Mulan can be considered one of the last innovative, iconic Disney films. Like most Disney classics, Mulan explores identity, gender roles, and cultural norms; but unlike other films, it does so from a foreign perspective and with a level of respect that's not seen often.
The music, though short, is good, and the direction is solid... Some of the jokes are embarrassingly bad, but that's expected out of Disney films... Bottom line, it lacks the impact and lasting value of a The Little Mermaid or Aladdin, but Mulan is a very solid Disney flick that I'd recommend to everyone, children and adults alike.
