Review of Mud (2013) by Daniel P — 17 Nov 2013
Modern feel-good adventures for the YA set that don't have 2 or 3 sequels in line are few and far between (and this one carries so much potential that it could continue on as a Huck Finn/Tom Saywer series for HBO) but there's enough character building and backstory in this one adventure to fulfill a whole series of drama: classic Southern love/heartbreak, knockout performances from the whole cast (hey, is that Michael Shannon in a wetsuit?), and smart storytelling/soundtracking that sublimely augment each other like a real movie should.
All in all, this is a sharp contender for best of 2013. 5/5 And yes, ladies, McConaughey does manage to appear sans shirt...soooo there's that. *rolls eyes*.
