Review of Mud (2013) by Luke M — 18 May 2014
A highly talented cast led by a stellar McConaughey performance is the strongest factor in Mud's favour. McConaughey's Mud (a complex yet very straightforward man) displays none of McConaughey's trademark cocky charisma, which has been present in every McConaughey film to date.
The script takes a while to come to fruition but concludes in an exciting way that will have you on the edge of your seat. The film is a lot less favourable to the females, who are all portrayed as greedy, promiscuous manipulators who do nothing but get men into trouble.
However, manages to explore very relevant lessons for young men, for whom I consider this film essential viewing.
