Review of Mrs. Miniver (1942) by Min K — 05 Nov 2008
This is the first I'd heard of Greer Garson, and I was very impressed with her performance (for which she won Best Actress). A touching film about a middle class English family whose lives are slowly intruded upon by WWII.
The film conveys just the right amount of humor and tragedy, with interesting commentary on the issues of class. And of course a cute Christopher Severn as Toby steals many of the scenes. One of the best scenes is when Mrs.
Miniver encounters a German soldier and is forced to confront war she had remained so distant from face-to-face. Great cinematic moments (like the river boat sequence).
