I remember Mrs. Doubtfire being in theatres when I was 7-years old and seeing it shortly thereafter, and it's pretty much exactly how I remember it. Robin Williams uses his range of voice effects to great use (His character is a character dubber for cartoon films and he has to trick people into believing he looks and sounds like an old woman), which of course is super far-fetched, but nearly believable with Williams in the role.

The film handles some serious family issues like divorce and a new relationship for the mom shortly after, played by Pierce Brosnan. Mrs. Doubtfire does a decent job at balancing the heartbreaking issues at hand with a lot of comedy, solely resting on Robin Williams, which helps balance the movie out and keep it from being overly sentimental.

The premise can be absurd at times, I mean the entire movie basically is, but the underlying love and want to be close to his children makes Robin Williams character touching and heartfelt.
