Review of Mrs Brown (1997) by Hannah K — 19 Mar 2009
If I didn't already believe Judi Dench was one of the most fabulous actresses of our time, this movie would have convinced me. She mixed fragility and authority with a deftness that simply made you believe she *was* Queen Victoria.
Billy Connolly provided an excellent foil. My only quibble is that the movie sort of falls apart about 3/4 of the way through - their relationship becomes much less interesting once it's well-established.
It's the performances and the art direction that make this memorable, not the story itself.
