Review of Mr. Turner (2014) by Nick D — 27 Dec 2014
To go and make a three hour long biopic where nothing particular happens could only mean one thing: a respected director who is not afraid in taking risks. And it worked out. It may not be for everyone, but it sure is beautiful to ponder at. Like a painting by turner himself, leigh was able to capture amazing scenery and landscapes that make the viewers squeamish with the desire to pick up a pencil and start to draw.
Was Turner ahead of its time? oh yes. was he one of a kind? defs. Was he a bit of a creep? Hruump! Is the movie Leighs best? maybe, maybe not. Is it one of the best performances by an actor I have seen this year? Hell yes! are the characters relatable to? ehhh depends. despite its longitude, the movie offers some funny, sweet and thoughtful moments and is able to capture a quite interesting period in british (art)history. So watch it, and complain about its length later, wuzz.
