Review of Mr. Turner (2014) by Wayne M — 07 Jan 2015
Mr Turner is a fascinating and rewarding look at the last 25 years of the famous English painter JMW Turner. The great director Mike Leigh has fashioned, as is his style, an earthy warts and all film that isn't afraid to get dirty and gritty.
This isn't your usual dry staid period biopic. It's salty, honest and strongly emotional. Timothy Spall is superb in showing all of the foibles of the great artist. And the cinematography is superb showing the beautiful light that Turner so successfully captured.
Probably only fault is that it's a little long, but overall a rich and sumptuous film.
