Review of Mr. Turner (2014) by Robert E — 29 May 2015
Too long, boring, tedious and uninteresting without any discernable plot. It is frequently peppered with dull uninteresting parlor scenes where tedium prevails. Odd English dialects are frequently used making conversations largely unintelligible.
The story starts when Turner is already the toast of early Victorian society thus leaving out anything about his struggles to reach the top. It shows events that inspire him to create his most famous works without showing how he created the paintings or even showing the paintings at all. It is presumed you already know his painting intimately.
The crime here is that Turner could have been so very much better. They should have made the story of his journey from selling drawings in his poor father's barber shop to becoming an artistic master that is celebrated by Victorian society.
