Review of Mr. Turner (2014) by Glenn M — 12 Nov 2014
If you are looking for a film that has you on the edge of your seat then this is perhaps not the film for you, Mr Turner is a two and a half hour amble through an intriguing piece of film which no doubt portrays Turners later life very well.
We get to experience the eccentric Turner in a very raw way, his close relationship with his father, his bizarre relationship with his housekeeper and his second life towards the end of his own, one kept to himself where he grew comfortable and finally died.
There is no Hollywood glamour, the film is rough and not afraid to show the reality behind the beautiful masterpieces, there is something disconcerting to watch Spall flob on the canvas to then produce the beautiful pieces of art we know.
It is also a contradiction to see such beauty being produced by such a gruff man. The acting is faultless and I can only assume Spall will be satisfactorily rewarded for such a performance.
