Review of Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939) by Chandler V — 20 May 2008
Jimmy Stewart delivers the performance of a lifetime. How he didn't get the best actor Oscar in 1939/1940 for this film I have no clue. This is the penultimate "little guy vs the world" film that has been re-done so many times over the years, usually in the sports film genre ironically, but no one can touch the original.
Works well as a feel good film and as a true piece of Patriotism. ANYONE, white, black, brown, purple, Conservative, Liberal, or Socialist should see this film. The power of the human spirit portrayed here is TIMELESS.
