Review of Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939) by Megan . — 01 Jun 2009
This movie is incredible! I was skeptical going into it when I heard it involved politics- a topic that a large number of people might find boring, including me. But when I watched it, I saw that it was so much more than just politics.
Jimmy Stewart gives an awe-inspiring performance, filled with so much conviction and commitment to the very end that I would go as far to say that it is one of the best performances in film- of all time! Honorable mentions must be made to Jean Arthur, who adds a lovely touch to this film- fueling "Mr.
Smith" with encouragement and inspiration- and Claude Rains, for his emotional performance. This film is truly inspiring. It reminds us of hope, and that with passion and determination- one small person can make one huge difference.
Add in a dose of American patriotism and you've got "Mr. Smith Goes To Washington", a memorable piece of movie magic in film history.
