It's the latest trend in movies: "I useta be a highly trained government assassin, but now I kill people purely for my own reasons ..." with the spin in this one being a romance thrown in for spice.
This is nada but a personality vehicle for the stars and they do their Jim Carrey best to ladle just that all over the thing. Imagine a guy getting buckshot in the face being played for laffs and you have the tone in a nutshell.
Cue the truckloads of bad guys dropping like flies.
