Review of Mr. Mom (1983) by Tom H — 24 Sep 2009
This is like a long sitcom. It's enjoyable enough and easy to watch, but it never really goes anywhere. The premise (the wife going to work and the father staying home with the kids) is pretty obvious and there are a handful of amusing scenes.
It's fun watching it now and seeing how dated and oftentimes sexist the film is. But it really has to be watched as a throwback to the '80's. The comedy and premise don't fully stand up to today's humor.
And there are certain fantasy sequences that are just bizarre and poorly constructed. But for a light bit of nostalgia, Mr. Mom does the trick.
