How did the great Ian McKellen not get a Best Actor nom for this? The film is a smaller type, sure, and its central "mystery" won't blow away minds and it's a smidge slow, but its deconstruction of the Sherlock Holmes mythos by focusing on mortality and regret is brilliantly pulled off.
McKellen's marvel of a performance is the reason why.
