Just when you thought that Sherlock Holmes stories have been done to death, comes this fresh twist on the familar narrative. McKellen is outstanding in the role of the senile detective looking back on his life.
Instead of flashy gimmicks, the film focuses on slow burn narrative and comes out as a winner in terms of satisfying emotional pay off.
