Typical Capra fare. Gary Cooper is fantastic as is Jean Arthur. The rest of the cast is fun and the movie makes perfect sense when seen in the context of the Great Depression. The first quarter of the movie is finewhilst the second qaurter drags.

Deeds is less a fish out of water than a character looking to establish his own unique nature. I mean this as no compliment. Few of the odd things he does really strike the viewer as believable or even consistent.

He is a chracter jumping through hoops to get the audience to the final scenes of the movie which are magnificent. The courtroom scene is grand and as much a tematic statement as any kind of drama.
