Review of Mr. Deeds Goes to Town (1936) by Mahir T — 17 Sep 2010
Not as good as other Capra films I've seen, but this one is very good too. It's 2 hours long, and the first 90 minutes... well, you could say that they're simple, nothing special, just good; but the final 30 minutes (I mean the courtroom scenes are extraordinary in every way, it's so well written, directed and acted.
Those 30 minutes are perfect. Gary Cooper and Jean Arthur had great chemistry. This film is considered a romantic comedy, but it's not at all for me. I saw it as a drama/romance film... yes, there are a couple of funny moments, but they're not enough to consider this a comedy.
.. Anyway, great film, not Capra's best, but still very good.
