Eddie Murphy's performance on the titular character is something to behold since he's never performed without garnering laughter. He finds a new footing in this drama, which could be considered sentimental based on its similar narrative structure and energy, and his performance and father-daughter-like chemistry with Britt Robertson are really good. The heartening-natured film creates a new experience for those who've watched Murphy's films, and it won't disappoint like some others were claimed to be. (B+).
