Review of Mr. Brooks (2007) by Vanessa L — 27 Dec 2011
Let me preface this by saying I can not stand Kevin Costner. I think he is plain awful. Let me also add in that Dane Cook is quite possibly the most pathetic excuse for an actor (or comedian) that the world has to offer. However even these 2 can not derail the top notch movie that is 'Mr. Brooks'.
A clever look inside the head of a master serial killer, showing a fractured personality depicted by the great William Hurt, who is as good as ever. Costner is surprisingly good, although Cook is a waste of life as usual.
The only complaint I have about the film is that there are too many subplots going on. From Demi Moore's role as the detective assigned to the Brooks killings, to Mr. Brooks daughters pregnancy and homicidal indulgences, to Dane Cook's shadowing, to the escaped maniacs stalking Demi Moore's character, I would rather have cut one or two of those subplots out and developed the others better. But in the end, they are all tied up nice and neat, leaving a well above average and disturbing film.
