Review of Mr. & Mrs. Smith (1941) by Tom M — 28 Feb 2010
With this and The Trouble With Harry, Hitchcock showed he could have been a fine comedy director if he'd wanted (his suspense films have plenty of great comedy in them as well). What's noteworthy in both of these movies is that there's a weird element, a focus on the dark side that Hitchcock explored more thoroughly in his suspense flicks.
Even when he's doing comedy, there's something delightfully creepy in his work. Carole Lombard is great as always.
