Review of Mr. & Mrs. Smith (1941) by Matthew D — 20 Feb 2016
This contrived comedy has little in the way of charm and a real paucity of laughs, the titular couple's bloody-mindedness is played for amusement, but they are frustrating rather than funny. Neither husband nor wife are very likeable, and it's hard to care whether they get over themselves and get back together.
Mrs. Smith is especially exasperating; written as the worst stereotype of supposed feminine inscrutability and irrationality.
