Review of Mother's Day (2016) by Orlando O — 06 Sep 2016
From the same director that brought you Valentine's Day and New Years Eve, here comes Mother's Day. Making his way with following a group of characters and there dramatic affairs about family, relationships, relatable drama, ect. During the holiday like Mothers Day with a central theme about motherhood. Mother's Day is not exactly a worth noting romantic comedy film. It has its shares of clichés seeing people feeling lost about love, lost away from getting along with family, trying to get through the holiday as a single parent, ect. It is easy to tell, everything works itself out in the end. It would take some motivations like RVs having bad brakes and rolling downhill with people inside, reuniting with a mother that they never met before, and even a health accident with Jennifer Aniston's child having an asthma attack and her ex husband new girlfriend taking the kid to the hospital and they both come to there senses of happiness towards each other.
It is also what Mother's Day suffers from with not really having a depth on a plot. It is about several characters, Jennifer Aniston is going through an anxiety and feeling like her whole world is turning upside down on the holiday when she finds out her ex Husband Timothy Olyphant is dating a young girl. Feeling like her kids love her company more than herself, when her ex husband is going all out with trip planning. Kate Hudson's character is surprised to see her inconsiderate parents, who judged her for marrying an Indian man which she lied to him and her parents about her love life. Jason Sudeikis is a father of two daughters and is trying to make the best of it after losing his wife overseas. Britt Robertson is a young lady, been with her boyfriend for a long term and has a child but is afraid to commit to marriage while fearing for the worse.
It does have a talented cast, but the film's script just gives every character a brief moments. Making them all one dimensional and the movie is consist of these characters in different dramatic situations. Mother's Day is a bad dramatic film that is followed with a lot of clichés, a flat plot, and script.
