Review of Mother and Child (2009) by Daniel B — 10 Dec 2010
Drama writter and directed by Rodrigo Garcia interweaving the lifes of three women all effected in differing ways by adoption. Very well put together with stand out performances from Naomi Watts and in particular Annette Bening.
It's written intelligently and requires something of the viewer which is always something I like. I don't like to be spoon fed detail that any half intelligent person should be able to pick up on for themselves.
I never knew until I read up on this film that that Rodrigo Garcia is the son of the famous Colombian writer Gabriel Garcia Marquez, so you learn something new everyday don't you? Oh and Samuel L Jackson is pretty good in this too. Having watched the turgid mess that was 'The Tourist' yesterday this was extremely refreshing!
