Review of Mother and Child (2009) by Ildiko F — 09 Feb 2011
What a film! I loved the pace of it and the characters are brilliantly portrayed by Naomi Watts, Annette Bening and Kerry Washington in particular. When the Oscar nominations came out, someone said Naomi Watts had been snubbed. She/he was right, such an amazing performance, so nuanced, so sensitive.
You definitely need to approach this story with an open mind but it's rewarding in the end. While the characters may seem alienating at first, the mysteriousness surrounding them kept me interested until the details added up. There is so much humanity to all the characters, this is one of those cases when fallibility comes across as beautiful and elevating. I can only recommend it.
