Most people didn?t/won?t get the underlying story of this film. The main characters (including the house) all represent something more than the characters they are portraying. I don?t want to say too much as I am not one to give away spoilers.
I will just say; the Bible and Earth play important parts in this film without being directly referenced. At times it?s disturbing. But once the dust settles you?re left with an accurate portrayal of what happens when people believe in something too much while neglecting what?s really important in life.
All of the negative reviews, I feel, came from people that either didn?t get it, refused to accept the theme, or don?t like Jennifer Lawerence because of comments she made around the time of this movie?s release.
This film is not paint by numbers. You need to try and decipher it to get an understanding of it. A lot of people don?t want to have to do that with movies. You know?: think. They just want the story laid out for them.
That?s not this movie. But if you can muscle through it there?s no denying that this is a thought-provoking, powerful and intriguing film.
