Why all the bad user reviews??? Possibly because most American movie goers are lazy, prudish and dense.
Yes, this film deals in metaphors and/or allegories which makes it somewhat abstract, ambiguous and strange. But that's also what makes it artistic and therefore worth seeing.
Spoiler Alert: The final scene with Lawrence and Bardem is unexpectedly heavy-handed and thus undermines the rest of the film. Also, the culmination of the third act is a bit extreme and could be considered shocking to some. No more so than "Requiem for a Dream" which scored a 93% by users so...
As for the technical side, the acting is on point, the cinematography bold and the story... well, I'm still thinking about it hours later so... I'd say it did its job.
