If you go into this film knowing the whole thing is an allegory-for God and Mother Nature-then you'll have a much better understanding of what's going on and you'll be able to pick up on the many religious and biblical metaphors used throughout.
If you know that ahead of time, you'll be able to recognize the brilliance of this film and appreciate Aronofsky's genius. I feel like the marketing was this film's downfall. If they have been upfront about the fact that it's an allegory for how poorly 'Mother Nature' has been treated (by God and his followers) the film would have garnered the appreciation it deserves.
