I think opinions about mother! are divided because audiences will fall into one of two camps: those that believe that Darren Aronofsky is some sort of genius visionary and those that don't. I fall into the latter camp, and only went to see the movie out of morbid curiosity to see what all the fuss is about.
All I can say is I wish I hadn't bothered. The word 'pretentious' has been used a lot and it's fitting. If there's any justice, Aronofsky shouldn't be let near a movie set again.
