Review of Mostly Martha (2001) by Jac W — 30 Apr 2008
We picked this up at the Dollar Store on a lark, and it just goes to show that sometimes you get more than what you pay for.
This has got to be the most subtle, the most understated romance ever caught on film. And don't believe the blurbs on the cover about it being a comedy--it's not. Funny bits are scattered here and there, but they definitely aren't the centerpiece of the movie. It's a very solemn drama in some respects, heartwrenching in others. Well worth the patience you give it to allow a beautiful story to unfold g-r-a-d-u-a-l-l-y.
