One more example of a movie that was at least semi-incorrectly marketed, 'Morning Glory' is less a rom-com than a spoof of the broadcast news industry. Those people who work inside the news industry can relate perhaps more than those outside the business. While at least some of the movie is fictionalized, there is some truth behind what audiences see happen. The story does include the ever present underlying romance subplot. But the peculiar thing of that subplot is that it actually doesn't overpower the more interesting storyline of a young producer trying to make her way up the ladder in the world of broadcast news. And yes, that being the case, the movie was likely aimed more at oung female audiences. But both males and females inside this industry can relate thanks to her interactions with her co-workers.

Harrison Ford was a near spot-on pick for the grizzled old news anchor who had become so jaded by what happens within the business. That's what makes the story actually worthwhile. Yes, audiences have seen the plot before where an old dog teaches the new dog the tricks of the trade. And while this story is little different, it has enough heart behind it to really make the story believeable and bearable.

One can only wonder about the chemistry off camera between Ford and co-star Diane Keaton. The duo sparred to hilarious results on camera. Considering both actors' resumes, one can only assume that that made their connection on-screen as natural as it was. Jeff Goldblum, too, was the right choice for the ibs news director. It could be argued that he was typecast for his role. But that aside, again, those who work(ed) in broadcast news know or have known someone like him.

Whether it be the cast, or the ability to get past some of the more fictionalized aspects of the story, 'Morning Glory' is a surprisingly fun movie both for male and female audiences. It's one of those rare chances for audiences to turn off their brains, and enjoy a movie that is at least semi-original, when compared to the rest of the movie fare currently in theaters and on dvd.
