Review of Morning Glory (2010) by George D — 15 Apr 2013
This is a nice movie, light hearted and sweet but it really doesn't know what it wants o say after it solves all of it's substantial problems about the nature of the American News media and it's role today.
The film seems to condemn solid news in favor of fluff but then it kind of doesn't...I don't get what the filmmakers want me to think about this subject. The characters get the better of the overall theme, they get a happy ending rather than one that makes sense.
Rachel McAdam's is cute and the film is well directed and bubbly, like our main character. Harrison Ford is good, but his character is pretty repetitive and Diane Keaton doesn't get enough to do.
Patrick Wilson who I feel is a good actor and who I hope doenst get stuck in the romantic comedy rut, is wasted here and pretty ineffectual.Has a few laughs, mostly derived from the film's main characters but ultimately it's kind of rehashing what Broadcast News did better, it being a parody of a formulaic film like this and very emotionally satisfying on a whole different wave length.
No grey area here, it all ends well amidst awkward NBC product placement. I gave this three stars because I felt bad it was rated so low. A lot of worse shit out there for a female audience, this is fun and enjoyable.
