Review of Moral Kombat (2009) by Michelle H — 26 Aug 2010
Moral Kombat is a feature-length documentary about the violence in video games issue. Negative reviews seem to stem exclusively from those who haven't taken the time to watch the entire film, or don't bother to watch past the trailer for that matter, before judging it. The director does an outstanding job at balancing the debate and getting compelling info out of interviewees - many of whom seem to be experts in the field.
Given the upcoming Supreme Court case about this same issue, the documentary is timely and very informative. The graphic presentation will either strike viewers as essential and additive, or annoying and distracting, but given the nature of the subject matter it seems to me to be entirely relevant.
Whether you're a parent looking to learn more about the debate, or a gamer who's open-minded enough to learn more about the opposing view points, this is a documentary not to miss. And with it available on just about every major digital distribution platform (Hulu, Netflix, iTunes, etc.) it couldn't be more convenient. Highly recommended.
