Review of Moonstruck (1987) by Donna D — 04 Mar 2008
Rarely, if ever, do you nowadays get a romantic comedy that is as sophisticated, well-crafted and cliche free as Moonstruck. Cher in her deservedly Oscar winning role, where she proved she could at least act unextravagant, plays a widow who is about to marry merely out of duty and comfort.
Enter Nic Cage, Oscar snubbed, as the finace's brother who she is instantly drawn too. What's probably best about this one is how it makes room to develop each character, and takes enough time to develop themes of love, loss, family and tradition.
..all in less than 100 minutes.
