Review of Moonstruck (1987) by Chalen K — 19 Jul 2008
John Patrick Shanley writes scripts that nourish the soul. He didn't stick around Hollywood long (the New York theatre is more his scene) but the movies he created were instant classics.
Every time I watch this movie, I want to pull up a chair and join this family in a meal. This film has so thoroughly impacted my life that now when I see a beautiful full moon I can't help but think it's "a Cosmo's moon" and when I see a Chagall painting I don't think it's gaudy, I just think "He was having some fun.".
Olympia Dukakis is devastating in this film. She chews every bit of scenery. (That is to say, in actor speak, she steals every scene.).
