Review of Moonstruck (1987) by Tracy E — 08 Mar 2009
Cute romantic fable about a widowed woman who falls in love with her future brother-in-law, and madness within her family ensues. Wonderfully comic, Cher brings great presence to the screen. Don't watch this expecting any great surprises or breakthroughs in filmmaking.
Watch it for the subtle and incredibly natural performances, and the wonderful photography that brings out the heart of New York City. If there was a definition for a "sweet" film, it would probably be this; I can't think of any more complimentary synonyms to describe it.
