Review of Moonstruck (1987) by Chris S — 22 Apr 2009
I admire its script because John Patrick Shanley is a wonderful and delightful screenwriter, able to create portraits of people and witty dialogue. The performances are good all around although Cage sometimes falls flat.
I love Olympia Dukakis as the mom--I wish she were my mother! But sometimes, it just doesn't work and a lot of that has to do with my dislike of its very happy-go-lucky love theme. Cher and Cage become impassioned for each other after one day.
ONE DAY. And it acts as if it's all okay and it's love but I don't buy it. All in all, it's cute.
