James Bond...in space! Yes, as ludicrous as that sounds, this is actually a solid Bond. 007 goes against Hugo Drax in this adventure that takes us through California, Venice, and Brazil.

Hugo Drax, using his fleet of space shuttles known as "Moonrakers" from his secret base in Brazil, wants to destroy humanity and populate it with his "perfect" race of humans. Using henchman Jaws from "The Spy Who Loved Me", Drax goes against 007 and American astronaut Holly Goodhead, and the battle eventually takes 007 to outer space.

Like I said, while the synopsis of it sounds completely inane, this is a legit Bond entry. While the "James Bond in Space" causes many to write it off without even seeing the movie, those who actually sit through it will be in for a very pleasant surprise. Drax is one of those highly intelligent supervillains that are diabolical as they are bright. I will admit, though, there is not that much chemistry between Bond and Holly. However, they do get chased through Brazil during their Carnaval celebration, easily echoing the foot chase in "Thunderball" (sure, its a retread, but its a welcome retread). Drax also has a samurai henchman, which Bond squares off with in Venice, Italy. Gadgets here are poison darts (which winds up being a deus ex machina) and a gondola that turns into a hovercraft.

Quick to write off, but a complete pleasure to watch. Remember people, movies are about having fun, and this one sure is a fun entry for our dear Agent 007!
