Review of Moonraker (1979) by John E — 22 Apr 2009
The humor and campiness are too prevalent in this Bond outing. The movie actually is pretty good in terms of a spy story; until the entire space sequence. On the plus side, John Barry's score is moving and one of his best and Shirley Bassey is always welcome.
The pretitles sequence is neat, but this one could have done without Jaws, or at least his silly girlfriend nonsense. The action is uneven, with every sequence played seriously followed up by one played for laughs.
Also, some of the most wooden acting ever from a Bond girl, or anyone else for that matter. The multiple elements that detract from the entertainment mar what would otherwise have been a pretty decent Bond film.
