Review of Moonraker (1979) by Colin F — 25 Jun 2012
Moonraker is a film I have always liked, but it is without doubt the most far fetched and OTT film in the series. It is a very well made film and it still looks like it must of cost a fortune to make but the script is utter bollocks. There are so many flaws like for example how would you build a space station the size of a city in space in secret! Even if the baddie Drax would of been the richest man on the planet he would still have difficulty pulling half of this shite off!
There are positives though, Roger Moore is reliable as ever as 007, Louis Chiles is a different type of Bond Girl which I like, Drax is a superb villain with some great one liners and its great to see Jaws back even though they ruin the character towards the end of the film.
This is an epic Bond Flick that has more visual effects than ever before, the effects in space are absolutely flawless but on the other end of the scale there are some really dodgy bad effects, like when Bond is fighting Jaws on the cable car, it just looks utter crap even for 1979 and the dummy in the speed boat is terrible for a film that must of cost so much to make.
Story wise this is probably one of the weakest in the series but it is an adventure romp and a visual treat to watch bar some effects. It does end with the worst line in the series TAKE ME ROUND THE WORLD ONE MORE TIME JAMES, really!
