Monte Carlo fulfills the escapism and romantic fantasies of young girls and women with its high fashion, European setting, handsome suitors and relatable heroines. The film is reminiscent of previous films as it contains touches of The Princess Diaries, Roman Holiday and Pretty Woman.
Selena Gomez plays Grace, a high school graduate, who takes her long awaited and saved up trip to Paris before starting college. Sharing the journey is Graceâ(TM)s best friend from work, Emma (Katie Cassidy) and, new stepsister and parent appointed chaprone, Meg (Leighton Meester).
Complicating Graceâ(TM)s dream vacation is the fact that her and Meg have yet to form a sisterly bond and Emma was Megâ(TM)s high school rival. A case of mistaken identity and a chance taken lead the girls from Paris to Monte Carlo for charity auction for Save The Children.
Selena Gomez shines in her performance and the moral of the movie is a clear as in any Disney tale. Just be yourself and riches will follow.
