Review of Monte Carlo (2011) by Sarah W — 02 Jul 2011
Cute, but certainly nothing special. Selena Gomez is good at playing the sweet, small-town girl looking to find romance and a better life in some foreign city, which is why her portrayal of a spoiled heiress with a heinous British accent is so unbelievable. This film lacks originality, and at best, it is a smorgasbord of different rom-coms and tween movie clips compiled into a single movie. The beginning had the potential to be comical, with an amazingly fast-paced and terrible tour and a dingy hotel room that even insects would stay clear of, but all of that is swapped out for first class and five star accommodations and the rest of the movie is tedious and predictable.
This is definitely a movie for Pre-teens and Tweens (those seemed to be the only ones laughing in the theater) and is alright if you're craving a lobotomy movie, but was a waste of $10.75 for me and not something I'd recommend to my friends.
