The writing, the voice work, and the animation bringing everything to life in this DreamWorks production is just mediocre. The cast had a lot of potential. The concept of monsters and aliens from cold war low-budget sci-fi pictures poking fun at their plethora of cliches held promise.
However, a certain level of inspiration and love for the source material seemed to be missing. Compared to the texture and stories that Pixar has been turning out, this movie appeared to be coming off a rushed production track.
