Review of Monsters University (2013) by Harrison M — 09 Dec 2014
People were waiting for Pixar to make a sequel to movies that deserve it like The Incredibles and Monsters Inc. When Monsters University was made and is a prequel, people didn't want that and felt that it was unnecessary to do that.
Whether or not it's still unnecessary is up to people, but I think that it's a great film. It's very funny, the characters in the other film are still good here with some new characters that are likable too, The acting is great and with some new actors, they were really good and I wouldn't know that it was them who played those specific characters.
The plot however, was not original at all an just felt like your everyday college competition movie that adults would compare it to other films like Animal House or Old School. When it got to the last act, that's when it was starting to be its own movie.
It has a great message and it's going to a tone of depression and colorless which is refreshing to see that in a Pixar film. The first two acts are funny, but not as clever and you would know where it's going.
As a movie that was a bit pointless to exist, Monsters University is a great Pixar film that kids would enjoy. Even though it's not up there to the greatest Pixar films, Pixar is probably getting there.
