Review of Monsters University (2013) by Tom D — 17 Feb 2014
Monsters University is what I call a "lucky call" for a prequel. The reason why is because most sequels or prequels are very low budget and majority of the time are unable to obtain the original voice actors to do the part. This movie was able to do so which is impressive. The movie itself is very catchy with the "fresh" into college feel as you watch the two enter college for the first time. The beginning of the movie was very smooth and catchy with Mike entering college and moving into the dorms. Also the college feel that the writers went into for the audience to feel what Mike feels as he enters college. The downside of this movie is that I wish they touched more on the college life and the back story between the two a bit more and not concentrate so much on the competition. Also this movie is showing kids that dropping out of college is a good thing and can still obtain a good job (ish). I also hate the competition parts with the two trying to get along when in the original movie it stated that Mike and Sully knew each other since they were kids and now they ONLY first met in college.
Overall a good movie to watch once and never to be watched again. The movie is adult friendly, but for kids not so much. There are a few things that could have been changed that would have made the movie better such as more back story between the two, more emphasis on the college life, and not so much with the scare competition.
