Review of Monster's Ball (2001) by K J E — 02 Mar 2009
An average drama which was well written and well acted. The set left a bit to be desired as it seemed the film wasn't sure where the story was happening (Louisiana or Georgia). Thorton, Ledger and Boyle were excellent in their respective roles, and though Berry was the best I've seen her, I'm not sure the performance was Oscar worthy.
The film was very thought provoking up until the sex scene between Thorton/Berry characters. It seemed to lose steam and meaning during the remainder.
