Review of Monster's Ball (2001) by Laetitia K — 18 Jun 2009
Given the deliberate scarcity of action and dialogue, the actors are forced to rely heavily upon their interior lives, and more than deliver the goods. The acting is so good in Monster's Ball, and the understated but intense mood so skillfully maintained, that we tend to overlook the story's contrivances.
Mostly resides in a mood of loss, somberness and prejudice, with a tender tiny beating heart of hope.
