Review of Monster House (2006) by Panta O — 15 Jan 2011
When bunch of kids tell you that this is their favourite animation movie... you have to see it! And that's what I did! Watching first-timer Gil Kenan was very interesting because he has a real sense what kids love... and he has a real feel for comedy, fright, and visual perspective. With all the shimmers and shakes in all its motion-capture animated beauty and the emotional darkness which taunts and surprises, this film is something different and that could be the reason for it's popularity with the youngest audience.
The other reason could be that the movie was made in performance capture, which the actors/actresses did all the movement by themselves, wearing wet suits, with sensors glued to their bodies. The movement was then transferred into a computer, and animation took place around their bodies. All of the props were made out of a wire material to also be animated and the background was completely animated in CGI. This process was pioneered by Robert Zemeckis on his film The Polar Express...
Kids want to be scared sometimes... here is your chance to do it!
